Background:
Members of several unions will
join together to voice their opposition to
Propositions 94, 95, 96 and 97.
The propositions, if passed,
would expand casino gaming for four tribes.
These deals do not include basic worker
protections for which all unions stand.
According to
www.nounfairdeals.com, health coverage at one
casino was so expensive for employees that 56
percent of the dependent children of casino
workers were forced onto taxpayer-funded health
care programs.
Organizations opposed to the
propositions include the San Diego-Imperial
Counties Labor Council, the California Labor
Federation, UNITE-HERE International
Union, American Federation of State, County and
Municipal Employees, California Conference Board
of the Amalgamated Transit Union, California
Conference of Machinists, California Teamsters
Public Affairs Council, SEIU California State
Council, United Auto Workers Region 5, United
Farm Workers of America and United Food
Commercial Workers Western States Council.
